Madurese for Foreigners

The book "MADURESE for Foreigners" is a comprehensive guide designed to help foreign speakers learn and understand Madurese, a language spoken by people on Madura Island and parts of East Java, Indonesia. Language is a vulnerable aspect of cultural heritage, and it becomes especially important to preserve it. Publishing this book is the first step to preserve it. Without book publications, the Madurese language will never be well recognized nationally and internationally.

This book is written to show the characteristics or uniqueness of the Madurese language which does not exist in other languages, including Indonesian. Each chapter contains a clear explanation and some examples. Moreover, the chapters are arranged in a very logical and progressive order to help the reader to learn Madurese language easily.

Before explaining the uniqueness of Madurese language the writers show the basic sound system, parts of speech, morphemes, word orders, reduplication, homophone, homograph, homonym and speech levels of the Madurese language.
